For all its adverse health affects (stress), Type-A personalities exist for a good reason. We get things done! Being one, I'm proud of my ambitious nature, but I struggle to find contentment in my life. Is there a way to "live in the moment" AND chase lofty goals? The answer is balance but that's easier said than done.
I grew up with a supportive network of friends and family who encouraged me to go after my dreams. In college, I learned to think outside the box. The world opened up to me! Several years later, I had a career in Graphic Design and worked my way up to Design Director of a large publishing company. Eventually, I realized I had a growing thirst to be an Entrepreneur. I ventured out on my own as a freelance artist. Simultaneously, I bought my first Curves (a woman's workout facility) in 2003 and my second in 2005. I was juggling several things when a much wanted (and needed) catalyst changed all my priorities... the birth of my first child. Ironically, career progression didn't seem so important.
Today, my family has grown from one to three and my career is becoming fine-tuned. Curves took me on a roller coaster ride of highs and lows. I gained valuable friendships and lessons along the way. Now it's time to refocus on design while enjoying the luxury of being a stay-at-home-mom. I'm not one to keep life simple but I'm learning to balance my Type-A personality with the fulfillment of family. They are my foundation and my success! I am fortunate and appreciative for so many reasons... most of all for a wonderful husband who gives me the wings to fly AND the support to catch me when I fall.
